Exhausted Soul

293 0
Oh, exhausted soul
that walks with me,
even through my worst days,
helping me stand
on my burning feet.
You never thought
I could go through
so many thunderstorms
and survive.
But the sun came out,
and it took me a while
to realize
that I had abandoned you
from the start,
leaving you to carry
the burden of my wounds.
And here we are,
leaving the pain behind,
breathing slowly,
staring at each other
as if for the first time,
promising not to be apart,
just trusting each other
without fear
of who we are.
