The second edition of the LatinArte festival proposes a room for visual arts that arouses a look at the perspective contemporary art of two hundred years of the independence and consolidation of Latin America.

The exhibition Autonomous Territories: The independence of a Culture is intended to produce a vision that horizontally gathers and spreads the thinking and the work of some of the Latin American artists established in Quebec.

The Commissioner's proposal examines a look, regarding the creation of a new territory through its creativity.

She also proposes the construction of a Latin American cartography that is present in the collective memory, inhabited by the subjectivity that manifest itself through art.

In 2009, the cultural life of the metropolis welcomed LatinArte. LatinArte offers a window to the Latin-American culture lived here as well as a “real reunion” with the southern countries’ popular art. The objective is to integrate, discover and share the different aspects of art. LatinArte is a cultural event which diffuses creations of the Latin-American artists living in Montreal through various disciplines:  Visual arts;  Music;  Literature;  Dance;  Movies and photography;  Theatre.

The Montreal World Film Festival will be presenting 430 films from August 26 to September 6 2010; most of them are North American premieres. Gerard Depardieu will give a master class on the cinema, and he will share his experiences with the great film directors of his era, also his vision of the contemporary industry and the alchemy of moviemaking.

The festival has plenty of surprises. Depardieu's perspective on the 7th art includes his acting for a who's-who of contemporary cineastes from around the world, directors like Jean Beaudin, Claude Berri, Bernardo Bertolucci, Bertrand Blier, Claude Chabrol, Luigi Comencini, Alain Corneau, Marguerite Duras, Marco Ferreri, Jean-Luc Godard, Peter Handke, Claude Miller, Maurice Pialat, Jean-Paul Rappeneau, Alain Resnais, Barbet Schroeder, Ridley Scott, Daniel Schmid, François Truffaut, Andrzej Wajda, Peter Weir, and Claude Zidi, just to mention some of the   great French and international filmmakers.
